LUUM

THE WEAVER OF UNCERTAINTY

  • Pronunciation: loo-um

  • Purpose: Luum embodies the anxiety of the unknown and the decision fatigue that comes with the fear of how our choices will shape the future. They represent the burden and responsibility of free will in a world where every decision can feel overwhelming.

  • Personality: Luum is introspective, cautious, and deeply contemplative. They are always analyzing the potential outcomes of every choice, often caught between the desire for certainty and the acceptance of life’s inherent unpredictability. Despite this, Luum encourages others to trust in their ability to navigate life’s uncertainties.

  • Backstory: Born from the pervasive anxiety of the modern world, Luum emerged as the tiniest dreadling, yet where every decision seemed to carry the weight of the unknown. Luum’s creation was driven by the moments of hesitation, the endless what-ifs, and the fear of making the wrong choice. They are a constant reminder that while we cannot predict the future, we can shape it through our actions, no matter how uncertain.

Learn about their origin story and additional aspects of their lives here.

Luum is about the size of a venti coffee lid.

Materials: specialized inks and paint and clay base.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 Nations: the Siksika (Blackfoot), Kainai (Blood), Piikani (Peigan), Tsuut’ina, and the Stoney Nakoda Nations—Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney. This land is also part of the historic Northwest Métis Homeland, including Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.

We recognize that these lands have been home to Indigenous Peoples long before the signing of Treaty 7 in 1877 and long before Alberta became a province in 1905. These treaties were intended as agreements of mutual respect and shared responsibility, though the impacts of colonialism have fractured these relationships.

As part of our ongoing reconciliation efforts, we commit to continually learning about the histories, rights, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. We honour the resilience of Indigenous communities and acknowledge our responsibility to engage thoughtfully with the lands and the stories we are privileged to share.
